Austrian designers Katharina Mischer and Thomas Traxler develop and design furniture, products and installations, all with a focus on experimentation, context and conceptual thinking.
Collective Works balances craft and technology. The machine directly reacts to each observer, questioning the relationship between man and machine. As soon as one person comes within close proximity of the machine, the production process begins: A wooden 24mm wide veneer strip is pulled through a glue basin and slowly coiled around a thick wooden base. The platform holding the base moves downwards resulting in the veneer strip building upwards to form a basket. Toned markers begin to inject the veneer with colour reacting to more observers.
