The Maudslay Walker Batchstick by Neil Conley
Posted by Jess Knowles, 16th July 2012
Designed in 2011 for exhibition at Tom Dixon during the London Design Festival, The Maudslay Walker Batchstick is an industrial wax sealing tool.
Designed in response to a brief entitled 'Tools for Daily Life', in a digital world where our daily tools have become emails, texts and tweets. The Batchstick is the revival of the written document.
Each steel canister contains multiple sticks; friction matches encased in a sleeve of sealing wax. Each match contains enough wax to seal one envelope and can be struck on the steel shaft, dripped, stamped then discarded.
